Fake Firefox Warnings Lead To Scareware

While most of the talk for the past month has been their move to Mac with fake Finder pop-ups that appear to scan your computer, they haven't stopped innovating on Windows either. Their latest scam? Six Things That Block Your Wi-Fi, and How to Fix Them | PCWorld

Does your wireless network seem slow? A recent study by Epitiro, a UK-based broadband-analysis firm, shows that consumers lose an average of 30 percent of the data speed their broadband connection supplies when they use Wi-Fi connections in the home.
Why the slowdown? You've probably heard that some household electronic devices, including microwave ovens, baby monitors, and cordless phones, hamper Wi-Fi performance. The dirty dozen spam-relaying countries revealed | Naked Security

There's a zombie invasion going on - and it could have infiltrated your business, your home office, or even the corner of your bedroom.
Of course, it's not the kind of zombies beloved by the movie theatres but instead the problem of compromised computers being controlled by a remote hacker.
Many members of the public still haven't understood that spammers don't use their own PCs to send spam - instead they create botnets of commandeered computers around the globe (also known as "zombies"), which can be used to relay spam, send out malicious links and even launch distributed denial-of-service attacks.
If they did understand the problem, maybe they would put more effort into protecting their computers.

Osama bin Laden dead – so watch for the spams and scams | Naked Security

Google's top-trending Anglophone search term right now is, understandably, "osama bin laden dead".
Google officially describes its hotness (you couldn't make this stuff up) as volcanic.
The short version, according to the LA Times, is that bin Laden was tracked to a "comfortable mansion surrounded by a high wall in a small town near Islamabad, Pakistan's capital."
For bin Laden, it seems, the comfort is no more. "On Sunday, a 'small team' of Americans raided the compound. After a firefight, [President Obama], they killed Bin Laden." Apparently, DNA tests have confirmed Bin Laden's identity.
And there you have it.
Now you know the basics - but watch out for the links you're likely to come across in email or on social networking sites offering you additional coverage of this newsworthy event.
Many of the links you see will be perfectly legitimate links. But at least some are almost certain to be dodgy links, deliberately distributed to trick you into hostile internet territory.
If in doubt, leave it out!
